The project moves forward

The regular project planning meeting took place on 24 February. Adapting to the circumstances of the pandemic, as well as national and workplace constraints, the meeting took place online via the Zoom platform. The main issues to be discussed at the meeting were a summary of the laboratory research performed so far, as well as the determination of further research directions. All attendees gave short reports on what has been done in the project so far, as well as visually demonstrated the results of research and activities to colleagues.

EkoTech 2020 conference

From 12 to 25 November, the 12th annual Linnaeus EcoTech conference on natural sciences and technology was organized at the Karl Linnaeus University in Sweden. The topics of the conference were natural sciences, technologies for waste and wastewater management, remediation, emission reduction and environmental protection.

The conference was held online and aimed to strengthen co-operation between Nordic and Baltic companies, research and education institutions.

Representatives of our project team participated in the conference: Valdis Bisters with the report “The Baltic Beach Wrack Thermochemical Recovery and Valorization Routes” and Raivo Damkevics with the presentation “Energy Policy of Latvia from Perspective of its Impact on the Environment”.

The project “Innovation from Energy from Waste Concept for a Low Carbon Economy” has been launched

On October 1, 2020, the University of Latvia signed an agreement with the Central Finance and Contracts Administration on the innovation of the research project “Innovation of the waste-to-energy concept for the low-carbon economy: Development of novel carbon capture technology for thermochemical processing of municipal solid waste (Carbon Capture and Storage from Waste – CCSW)”. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to study the possibilities of CO2 sorption and to develop a laboratory-level prototype for this task.

In order to coordinate the launch of the project, as well as to identify the main tasks of the team, a kick-off meeting was organized on 7 October 2020 with the participation of project researchers, researchers, partners and supporters. The idea of the project, the main tasks to be performed, the initial research directions were presented, as well as other issues related to the project were highlighted at the meeting.
